Brandy Dixon - Cosplay Charity
Can you introduce yourself, tell us where you are from and what you do?
My Name is Brandy Dixon, I live in Portland Oregon but am originally from Massachusetts.
What inspired you to start a horror cosplay charity group?
I was approached by a friend that is part of a superhero cosplay group. We are both horror fans and he suggested to start a horror-based cosplay group. I agreed, and we built the North West Horror Network.
When did you start it?
It was started in December 2017
What kind of art do you do?
I am a transformers artist, but my range of art is very wide, and I am now expanding on doing horror art as well.
How long have you been an artist?
I have been an artist all my life, but got serious back in 2010 and got published in 2013
How long have worked with special effects makeup?
I have always had an interest in doing make up effects. So I decided to give it a try and since I am a natural artist I am a fast learner. I started doing stuff in 2018.
What are some of your future goals and projects that you can share with us?
On top of making a horror cosplay group I also helped create a film group. The combined groups and the connections I have with some of the people I know has opened an incredible door for us. I m just wanting to do amazing stuff to share our love of this often over looked and misunderstood genre. Some of the fun projects I have going on is some very cool and fun fan films.
What is your interpretation of horror?
Horror Is everything we fear, it is also the ability to come over our fears and so much of the horror out there is based on real world stuff, just twisted and changed to either entertain or educate us on not assuming nothing is wrong.
What is it about the genre that attracts you?
I love the thrill of horror and the suspense of surviving and seeing evil like we never really do.
If you can identify with a horror character which one would you say represents you the best?
Its hard to relate to a particular character, but if there was one to relate to it would be Michael Myers. He is a silent stalker and illusive. I can sometimes be the same way…but I am no killer lol but I do have a strong love for the Halloween season and masks
What’s your favorite horror film and why?
I love all types of horror so its hard to choose, but the Halloween movies are by far my favorites.
