Alexis Noriega - The Crooked Feather

Oh my, look at the tasty morsel I found for my hungry audience today.

What is your inspiration for creating your wings?

The original inspiration came from a cosplay I wanted to create for myself - I studied wing anatomy, watched a lot of YouTube videos, and created a very basic set (honestly it wasn't very good) and people kept raving over them and I was hooked!

How did you come up with the name “The Crooked Feather”?

I just brainstormed and had several good ideas, this was just one I stuck with because I wanted kind of a fun, twisted name so that people didn't just assume I only make white angel wings.

How long does an individual project take?

It really depends on what I'm working on. We sell some itty bitty wings that probably only take like 5-10 hours, but we have sets that take over 120 hours as well.

In your opinion, what makes your wings special?

Well, my articulating wings are pretty unique - there are other people who make articulating wings, but mine have been constantly evolving and upgrading and getting lots of input from my engineering friends. And a big part of what I do isn't just making the wings, but inspiring others to become makers, especially other girls and women.

For what purpose can your wings be used?

Decorative only - so for cosplays, costumes, etc. but never never NEVER for flying.

How long have you been creating wings?

Since 2013, which is when I built that first set for my own personal cosplay.

What type of materials are used?

A lot of feathers, some glue, some metal, some wood, some wiring and electronics, paint, and of course "blood sweat and tears".

What is your price range for the wings?

Most of my wings sell for between $1,500 and $3,500; I've had some that sell for more and some for less, but most fall in that price range.

Are there any other type of projects you do as well, or do you mainly focus your time creating wings?

I still do full cosplays, and even get invited as an official Cosplay Guest for some comic cons. But most of my time is focused on creating wings.

What are your future goals?

I'd love to get more into making other types of props and accessories, not just wings. Plus, one thing I've been obsessed with for a bit is making fluttering fairy wings, not just the up/down motion lol.

What is your favorite horror movie?

As a series, anything from the Alien franchise. But I do love most horror movies.

If you can pick a horror character which would most describe you, who would that be?

I don't think this counts as horror, but Morticia is my homegirl. :)

If someone wanted to see more of your work or order a set of demonic wings for their upcoming film, where would they find you?

You can find me all over the web searching for "The Crooked Feather" - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube - and I have a website: www.thecrookedfeather.com

Thank you for sharing your creation with us. It’s time to go now. Screaming won’t save you.
