31 days of black horror

Gory greetings horror peeps and happy October. I took the time to write a countdown worth watching. This list features more than just one person of color starring in the production because that’s what I consider black horror. I’ve watched all these movies and feel most are considered top horror in my book. I also listed films with as many females I could find. Hope you enjoy the countdown I put together. Hoping to see more productions of color to fill a countdown of 100 someday. Hollywood needs to step it up. Now get your horror fix on the proper way people! Enjoy 💀

31.Hood of horror (2006)-A hip hop horror anthology of three tales of terror told by the Hound of Hell that revolve around the residents of an inner-city neighborhood whose actions determine where they will go in the afterlife.

30.Scary movie franchise-Scary Movie is an American film series that comprises five parody films mainly focusing on spoofing horror films.

29. Vampire In Brooklyn (1995)-A ship docks in Brooklyn with all its crew dead, but someone gets off and the killing continues on land. A Caribbean vampire is searching for a specific woman, half-human half-vampire. Rita is the detective investigating the many killings.

28.Def by temptation (1990)- An evil succubus is preying on libidinous black men in New York City, and all that stands in her way is a minister-in-training, an aspiring actor, and a cop who specializes in cases involving the supernatural.

27.Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror (2019)- A look at the history of black horror films and the role of African Americans in the film genre from the very beginning.

26.Black and Mr. Hyde aka the Gila monster (1976)- When a scientist develops a formula to regenerate dying liver cells, it accidentally turns him into an albino vampire with a taste for prostitutes.

25.Get out (2017)-A young African-American visits his white girlfriend's parents for the weekend, where his simmering uneasiness about their reception of him eventually reaches a boiling point.

24.Candyman remake (2021)- A sequel to the horror film Candyman (1992) that returns to the now-gentrified Chicago neighborhood where the legend began.

23.Candyman original (1992)- The Candyman, a murderous soul with a hook for a hand, is accidentally summoned to reality by a skeptic grad student researching the monster's myth.

22.Bones (2001)- Over 20 years after his death by a gunshot, Jimmy Bones comes back as a ghost to wreak revenge on those who killed him and to clean up his neighborhood.

21.Tales from the hood (1995)- A funeral director tells four strange tales of horror with an African American focus to three drug dealers he traps in his place of business.

20.Blade 2 (2001)- Blade forms an uneasy alliance with the vampire council in order to combat the Reapers, who are feeding on vampires.

19.Blade (1998)- A half-vampire, half-mortal man becomes a protector of the mortal race, while slaying evil vampires.

18.The black box (2020)- After losing his wife and his memory in a car accident, a single father undergoes an agonizing experimental treatment that causes him to question who he really is.

17.Ganja and Hess (1973)- After being stabbed with an ancient, germ-infested knife, a doctor's assistant finds himself with an insatiable desire for blood.

16.Bad hair (2020)- In 1989 an ambitious young woman gets a weave in order to succeed in the image-obsessed world of music television. However, her flourishing career may come at a great cost when she realizes that her new hair may have a mind of its own.

15.Sugar hill (Pam Grier)(1974)- When her boyfriend is murdered by gangsters, Sugar Hill decides not to get mad, but BAD! She entreats voodoo queen Mama Maitresse to call on Baron Samedi, Lord of the Dead, for help with a gruesome revenge. In exchange for Sugar's soul, the Dark Master raises up a zombie army to do her bidding. The bad guys who think they got away clean are about to find out that they're DEAD wrong.

14.Blacula (1972)- An ancient African prince, turned into a vampire by Dracula himself, finds himself in modern Los Angeles.

13.Vamp (1986)- Two fraternity pledges travel to a sleazy bar in search of a stripper for their college friends, unaware it is occupied by vampires.

12.The intruder (2019)- A young married couple buy a beautiful house on several acres of land, only to find out that the man they bought it from refuses to let go of the property.

10.Blood moon (2021)-When Esme and her ten-year-old son, Luna, move to a small desert town looking for a fresh start they attract all the wrong kinds of attention. As the locals begin to probe, Esme must battle to protect her son and a terrifying secret before the next full moon threatens their very existence.

9. Body Cam (2020)- When a routine traffic stop results in the unexplained, grisly death of her colleague, a cop realizes footage of the incident will play for her eyes only. As the attacks mount, she races to understand the supernatural force behind them.

2.Us (2019)- A family's serene beach vacation turns to chaos when their doppelgängers appear and begin to terrorize them.

1.Beloved(1998)-Based on the book by Toni Morrison, in which a slave is visited by the spirit of a mysterious young woman

Honorable mentions

1. Tales from the hood 2 (2018)- Sequel to the cult classic reunites executive producer Spike Lee and writers/directors/producers Rusty Cundieff and Darin Scott for this horror-comedy starring Keith David.

2. Scream Blacula scream (1973)- The vampire Mamuwalde (Blacula) is stirred by African voodoo, and is forced to kill again.

3. Son of Ingagi - First science fiction horror feature to star and all black cast. written and directed by a black man in 1940 (oldest black horror production) written by Spencer Williams directed and produced by Richard C Kahn
